It Is Almost Semis Time In The VirSeker Cup, Who Will Survive?

The VirSeker Beker Cup Competition for 1stXV's is heading to some interesting and exciting semi-finals. The system to determine the teams that will advance to the semi-finals is completely different from the system to determine which school will be relegated.

To determine the semifinalists a team get four points for a win, one point if they score four or more tries and two points for a draw and one point if a team lose with less than seven points.

Garsfontein should end at number one as they still have to play Noordheuwel and Transvalia and should get the full 10 points to take their total to 37 points. Garsfontein travels to Noordheuwel this weekend and the win should be very big unless Garsfontein is starting to prepare for the semis and finals. Garsfontein will be without their four SA Schools players who will be playing in the u/18 International series in the Western Cape and will need to blood their replacements. The next two weeks, fortunately, will give them more than adequate time to prepare.

Helpmekaar play against Waterkloof in their final league game of the season and should collect the 5 points on offer, however, Waterkloof was a lot better than the score suggests against Affies. Helpmekaar has moved mr Watney to number 10 in a desperate move to plug the massive hole in the midfield which was exposed the past two weekends. Waterkloof has shown against Affies that they like to attack the defence between 10,12 and 13 scoring two great tries in the process last weekend. Mr Watney will be full of battle scars come Saturday afternoon, but will it be good enough?

Monnas still have to play against Menlopark and Middelburg HTS and only a fool will bet against the Witbulle not gaining the full 10 points. Monnas hosts Middelburg HTS and apart from the 1stXV, they will know on Monday that they were in a battle. Middelburg HTS only lost two games from the ten which they played against Menlopark, something is happening in Middelburg? Monnas also will be without Izaan and captain Henco for the semis and finals and one could expect them giving their substitutes a lot more playing time.

Menlopark have the biggest fight on their hands of the top four as both EG Jansen and Monnas will not be easy games but Menlo should at least earn the five points against EG Jansen. EG Jansen host Menlopark this weekend and EG Jansen is in desperate need of log points to avoid relegation and should target all games as must-win games.

Waterkloof is playing Helpmekaar this Saturday and then Middelburg HTS the weekend thereafter. One would expect a loss against Helpmekaar and a win against Middelburg HTS but again they could be the number four in the semis.

EG Jansen and Middelburg HTS still have mathematical chances to qualify for the semis, but unfortunately, it will remain only that.

To conclude the semi-finals should be between Garsfontein vs Menlopark/Waterkloof and Monnas vs Helpmekaar.
