Garsfontein’s Rude Welcome To Waterkloof In Return To VirSeker

There could not have been a bigger challenge put to Waterkloof on their return to the VirSeker Cup competition than to visit Garsfontein. Apart from the U/14A Garsfontein won the rest of the games on the A field confirming their status in schoolboy rugby at the national level.

Garsfontein started the game as expected running with their bigger forwards at the defenders of Waterkloof with only desperate defence by Waterkloof keeping Garsfontein from scoring. Garsfontein was rewarded with a try after 15 minutes of domination by fullback Zeilinga.

Waterkloof started to use clever kicks by their half-back paring to get into the half of Garsfontein and was patient in attack to force penalties that were converted.

Garsfontein lead halftime with 17-11 but it must be said that Waterkloof absorbed all that Garsies could throw at them and used the little chances they had on the attack to score. Garsies still dominate but .........

Waterkloof started off the second half meaning business but it was Garsfontein to score a long distance try to stretch their lead to 24-11 with 30 minutes still to go.

The game slowed down to a snail's pace until Waterkloof scored a try with fifteen minutes to go. Garsfontein opened the flood gates and scored four brilliant unanswered tries to win 52-16.

u/16A - The halftime score was 13-0 but definately did not reflect what was happening on the field. Waterkloof scored twice just after halftime to reduce the Garsfontein lead to 13-12. Garsfontein paying the price for two yellow cards they received during the first fifteen minutes of the second half. The game ended with Garsfonrein scoring a deserved try to clinch the win with 21-12. Menlopark scored a late try to close the gap to 17-21after Garsfontein, myself and most of the spectators believed

2ndXV - 31-10 The Garsies Grizzlies must surely be the top 2ndXV in the country with their victory against Grey's Cherries at the Noord Suid Festival still fresh in everybody's minds. A comprehensive win with all of the players that would with ease fit into Garsie's 1stXV.

u/15A - Garsfontein maybe just the better side in the first leading 07-03 at half time. Garsfontein controlling proceedings in the second half scoring 15 unanswered points to win 20-03

u/14A - Waterkloof the winner with 32-17 but Garsfontein fighting back in the latter part of the first half and early in the second half but two tries late in the second half secured the Waterkloof win. A bit of controversy as a dad form a boy playing for Waterkloof's u/16A team was the referee and quite a few of his decision even made the Waterkloof supports laugh. He was scheduled to referee the 2ndXV game also but were rightly so stopped.
