Some top schools attended the WP DHL Newland School Day on Tuesday. The matches are played in a shortened format of 20 minutes halves which resulted in some exciting running rugby with no conversions or penalties kicks allowed.
Parel Vallei and Kasselsvlei High were still tied with 0-0 at the beginning of the second half. The strength of Parel Vallei started to show in the second when they started to force some gaps and scored five tries to win 25-5. Parel Vallei is now unbeaten after 5 matches in 2019 and is showing that their promotion to the Premier B is deserved.
Milnerton and Brackenfell were involved in a titanic battle with no points scored in the second half by either side. Milnerton the winner with 5-0. Although Wynberg Boys won 15-0 against Brackenfell it was no easy day at the office with only sometimes desperate defence that kept Brackenfell from scoring.
Stellenberg came to live in the second half to share the spoils in the second half with 10-10 but unfortunately, they could not score enough to cancel SACS first-half lead of 15-0. SACS win 25-10, a deserving victory for a strong performance on the day. Boland Landbou was held to a 10-10 draw by Rondebosch in a very entertaining match.
In the final match, Paarl Roos made it clear that they have the forwards in 2019 to supply more than adequate quality possession to their brilliant backline. They scored a forward try in the first half to lead by 5-0 which was also the final score. However, one had the feeling if the game was played in a normal 40 minutes half that Boishaai's fitness would have pulled them through, while the Paul Roos supporters will claim that the two yellow cards prevented them from scoring more tries.
At the end a fantastic day of rugby that was enjoyed by all present.
